According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was identified in an arrest report obtained by Local 10 Wednesday as Edmonte Devalon.

Deputies said the incident occurred on Feb. 11 around 3 p.m. at a home near the 40 block of Northeast 195th Street.

Devalon’s arrest report states that the victim is a 15-year-old boy.

Investigators wrote that Devalon “failed to provide the victim with necessary medication for approximately six months for his liver disease,” causing his liver to fail and requiring an immediate liver transplant to survive.

After being read her Miranda rights, Devalon admitted to deputies that she had not given the victim his medication since the middle of last year because she was “overwhelmed with the number of children she has,” the report stated.

Deputies said Devalon acknowledged she was aware the medication was necessary and that without it, the consequences would be life-threatening.

As of Wednesday morning, she remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.

A judge also ordered that she have only supervised contact with the victim and refrain from any criminal activity or possession of drugs, weapons or ammunition.
