DAVIE, Fla. — A Davie family is cleaning up after a car slammed into their kitchen -- and they say it’s a miracle no one was hurt.
Homeowner Hayley Wilcox said a driver barreled into the side of her mobile home Tuesday night in the Orange Blossom community, near the 4400 block of Southwest 66th Terrace.
The impact went through the kitchen wall and shoved her stovetop oven across the dining room.
Inside at the time were Wilcox’s three young daughters, her husband and her father-in-law. She said her daughter first heard a loud bang.
“My daughter heard a big bang and she thought the TV fell, so when we went to the kitchen, that’s when we just saw the car in the kitchen,” Wilcox said.
“I think that something crashed into the house,” her daughter Nalany added.
Wilcox said the kitchen is usually busy, which makes what happened more shocking.
“Nobody was in the kitchen, and that is crazy because we always have someone in the kitchen doing something,” she said.
Davie police responded to the scene and found the driver. Authorities are still investigating what caused her to lose control.
Wilcox said the driver told her she felt “dizzy.” She also claimed there were two boys on a motorcycle doing tricks nearby.
As the investigation continues, the family has been displaced. The home has been deemed unlivable.
The Red Cross is covering a hotel stay for now. Wilcox said she is trying to find out whether the driver’s insurance will cover the damage, but she is unsure whether the driver was insured.
The family has also set up a GoFundMe to help cover expenses as they figure out what comes next.
