MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A man was arrested Wednesday in Miami Beach after he spat on the hood of a vehicle and then threw a beer bottle through the front windshield of the car, authorities said.
According to an arrest report from the Miami Beach Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after noon Wednesday in the 1300 block of Collins Avenue.
Police said the victim was pulling out of a parking lane along Collins Avenue when he saw the suspect, Derrick Dajuan Madison, 49, who is currently homeless, walking in between vehicles while carrying a six-pack of beer.
According to the report, as Madison passed the victim’s car he spat on the hood of the vehicle.
The victim told police that he raised his arms in a way to signify, “What’s going on?” at which point Madison stuck up his middle finger at the victim and then tried to open the driver’s side door.
Police said Madison wasn’t able to open the door as it was locked, and then proceeded to throw a filled beer bottle at the front windshield of the victim’s car.
According to the report, the bottle smashed the windshield, “creating an indentation almost going through.”
“As the glass shattered, small pieces landed on the dashboard and the victim,” the report stated.
Police said Madison then fled the scene on foot.
He was arrested a short time later on charges of shooting or throwing a deadly missile, burglary of an occupied conveyance and criminal mischief.
As of Thursday morning, Madison was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,000 bond.
