According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department, 36-year-old Kevin Dell Johnson was arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 attack, which occurred just before 8 a.m. in Miami. The specific location was redacted in the report.

Police said officers were dispatched at about 7:50 a.m. to a report of a domestic dispute involving a 911 caller’s boyfriend who was refusing to leave a property.

They said officers arrived and located a woman with injuries to her face. Miami Fire Rescue medics then transported her to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, the woman told police she walks her child to school every morning while holding a black baseball bat.

The woman told police that on Jan. 6, as she was returning home, she witnessed a couple who lives on the property engaged in a fight and attempted to intervene, according to the report.

The report stated that Johnson then approached her in an aggressive manner. The woman told police that, fearing for her safety, she swung the bat at him but did not hit him.

Police said Johnson then retrieved a brick from the property and struck the woman on the right side of her face, causing injuries.

They said the woman suffered a swollen right cheek and what appeared to be broken teeth. Johnson then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Later that morning, detectives administered a photo lineup, and the woman identified Johnson as the person who hit her with the brick.

On Wednesday, officers with the MPD’s Felony Apprehension team said they located and arrested Johnson at a home near the 7900 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue.

He was then taken to the department’s violent crimes unit for questioning, where he was read his Miranda rights and invoked his right to remain silent.

Jail records show Johnson is facing one count of aggravated battery with a weapon causing great bodily harm.

As of Thursday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
