AVENTURA, Fla. — New video obtained exclusively by Local 10 News on Friday shows the moments a Miami man accused of smashing his way into an Aventura smoke shop last week was stopped by a police K-9, authorities said.
The suspect was identified by Aventura police as 20-year-old Daniel Kendrick Mejia.

They said the break-in happened around 2:44 a.m. on Feb. 13 at Vapes and Smoke near Northeast 208th Street and Biscayne Boulevard.
Investigators said Mejia first tried to get inside by reaching through a mail slot to unlock the door but was unsuccessful. They said he then shattered a glass panel window, reached in and unlocked the door.
Once inside, they said Mejia filled a backpack with merchandise, including rolling papers, edibles, socks, hookah tobacco and lighters.
While the burglary was in progress, the store’s operations manager was alerted and called police, officials said.
Responding officers surrounded the business and deployed K-9 Angus, who apprehended Mejia inside the shop, police said.
Video released by the department shows the dog holding onto the suspect until officers move in to take him into custody.
Jail records show Mejia is facing one count each of armed burglary and possession of tools to commit a burglary.
As of Friday he was being held without bond at the Metrowest Detention Center.
