Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival brings big names, world premieres to South Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The weeklong Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival is bringing some of the industry’s biggest names -- and dozens of new films to South Florida.

Festivalgoers will get a chance to attend the world premiere of “Miami Nights,” along with a block party celebrating the film. The movie was shot in Miami, adding a local touch to one of the festival’s marquee events.

“Miami Nights” is just one of more than 50 films and documentaries that audiences will be able to preview before much of the rest of the world sees them. Screenings will take place at Savor Cinema, the festival’s longtime home base.

Lisa Grigorian, president and CEO of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, said the experience goes beyond just watching a movie.

“People will see films that may never make it on the big screen,” Grigorian said. People will get to see independent films, documentaries. Films that really touch you.”

Some of the actors from “Miami Nights” are expected to attend the premiere, which starts around 7 p.m. After the screening, the celebration moves outside as the block party gets underway.
