MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Miami man is facing charges after allegedly throwing a rock at a county bus.
It happened around 7 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Northeast First Avenue and 36th Street.
According to police, officers responded after receiving reports of a man who had thrown a rock at a county bus driver and began searching for a suspect described as a Black man wearing a beige jumpsuit.
That suspect, later identified as Jonathan Shaquille Hunt, 32, was found walking a block away, heading away from the scene, police said.
Officers said once they detained Hunt, he told them, “I wasn’t trying to hit anyone.”
The bus driver told investigators that while she was at a stop and picking up passengers, she observed Hunt picking up a large rock from a construction site, police said.
That rock hit the window behind the bus driver, shattering it and causing damage to the inside of the bus, and the driver told police the only reason the rock didn’t hit her was because the bus had started moving moments before impact.
Police said there were other passengers on the bus as well.
Hunt was taken into custody on multiple felony charges, and police said he was taken into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center through the combative wing due to him “becoming extremely irate and aggressive with detention officers.”
He remained at TGK as of Wednesday morning, with bond listed as “to be set.”
