Dane Guthrie, 39, is also accused of stealing the victim’s wallet while he was unconscious and burglarizing his vehicle.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the attack happened at around 4 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the 7-Eleven at 15199 S. Dixie Highway. Guthrie lives about a quarter-mile southeast of the gas station, according to his arrest report.

Deputies said Guthrie confronted the victim near the entrance and, for “unknown reasons,” began punching him in the head and face, causing him to “fall forward and hit a yellow pole as he fell face down,” rendering him unconscious.

Guthrie then began kicking the knocked-out victim until a witness yelled at him to stop, deputies said. According to the arrest report, he then “flipped (the victim) over and went through his pockets” and took the victim’s wallet, then went into the man’s vehicle and “rummaged through” it.

Deputies said Guthrie then walked back to the store entrance, got his dog and fled.

According to the report, the victim was “bloodied and beaten and had no recollection of the incident.”

Deputies said medics would later take the victim to Jackson South Medical Center, just across U.S. 1, where he spent six days in the hospital. He underwent surgery after suffering several injuries, including an “acute head injury” and multiple fractures.

Authorities said CCTV footage showed portions of the incident and noted that Guthrie is a “regular customer” at the store.

The arrest report states he’s also known to MDSO deputies who work out of Palmetto Bay: they recognized him from having “dealt with him in the past.”

Deputies said they located Guthrie at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the City National Bank branch at 16475 S. Dixie Highway. He declined to speak with them after being taken into custody.

Guthrie, as of Wednesday morning, was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of felony battery, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and petit theft.
