MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 29-year-old Amazon delivery driver is accused of stealing more than $17,000 worth of packages and selling the items on Facebook Marketplace, authorities said.
Luis Sanz-Lolo, 29, of Hialeah, was arrested on Wednesday at the Amazon warehouse, located at 3200 NW 123rd St., in the county’s Westview area, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the warehouse just before 1 p.m. in reference to a reported internal theft.
A loss prevention specialist told deputies that the company’s regional investigation department had identified Sanz-Lolo as a suspect after multiple customers complained their packages were never delivered.
During an internal review, investigators said they found several of the undelivered items advertised for sale on Sanz-Lolo’s Facebook page.
According to an arrest report, Sanz-Lolo was brought into an office for questioning, where he confessed to taking packages during his delivery route and selling them to friends and associates on Facebook Marketplace for personal profit.
The report stated that the total value of the stolen property was approximately $17,340.80.
After being read his Miranda rights, deputies said Sanz-Lolo invoked his rights and the interview was suspended.
Jail records show he is facing one count each of third-degree grand theft and dealing in stolen property.
He appeared in bond court on Thursday morning, where a judge placed him on an immigration hold after initially setting his bond at $3,000. He was also ordered to stay away from the Amazon warehouse where the incident occurred.
Sanz-Lolo’s arrest comes a few days after Andy Manuel Garcia Machado, 29, of southwest Miami-Dade, was taken into custody on a grand theft charge at the Amazon warehouse at 13320 SW 132nd Ave., near Miami Executive Airport.
According to MDSO deputies, a loss prevention employee with Amazon called authorities to report that since Garcia Machado’s hire on Nov. 19, “she has noticed multiple high-value items being reported as missing” by Garcia Machado, totaling $1,757.
“These items include a PlayStation console, solar panel, Bluetooth speaker, watch, air purifier and a Snickers bar,” a deputy wrote.
