FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Fort Lauderdale police arrested a man Thursday in connection with a shooting that they said left a man seriously injured late last year.
The suspect, identified in an arrest report as 27-year-old John Moss, faces one count of attempted homicide without premeditation, according to jail records.
Police said the shooting occurred on Dec. 9 around 9:20 p.m.
They said officers were initially dispatched to a reported “domestic disturbance” when 911 operators heard multiple gunshots before the call disconnected.
While en route, police said they were flagged down by a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near the 400 block of Northeast 13th Street. The victim was transported by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue to Broward Health Medical Center in serious condition.
Police said Moss later called 911 to report the shooting and provide his account.
After being read his rights, he told detectives he fired two rounds at a vehicle because he feared for his safety, according to the report.
The victim told police that on the night of the shooting, he was watching TV when an argument occurred at his door involving someone who was accompanied by a girl, the report stated.
After asking the individual to leave, police said the victim entered his vehicle, looked outside, and then spotted Moss, who fired three rounds at him.
Police initially stated that the shooting was being investigated as a possible ‘stand your ground’ case before arresting Moss.
As of Friday afternoon, he was being held on a $75,000 bond at the Broward Main Jail.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time.
