MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Miami-Dade woman is facing felony charges after deputies said she reached into a woman’s car and struck her with a dog bed during a confrontation in the county’s West Little River neighborhood.
Vinda Elaine Bell, 62, was arrested around 4:45 p.m. Thursday at her home near the 1300 block of Northwest 95th Street, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Bell’s arrest report states that deputies were dispatched to that location regarding a burglary.
A deputy spoke with the victim, who said she was seated in her BMW 320i when Bell approached her.
The victim told investigators that Bell began cursing at her and then “picked up a rock and began to strike her driver window, leaving scratches,” the report stated. The victim said she then lowered her passenger-side window to record the encounter.
The report states that Bell then “reached into the victim’s vehicle and tried to strike her with her hand.”
When that attempt was unsuccessful, Bell “grabbed the victim’s dog bed from the passenger seat and struck her with it before walking away,” deputies wrote.
Deputies later located Bell on the third floor of the building and took her into custody pending further investigation.
After being read her Miranda rights, Bell told investigators that she had walked out of a leasing office when she heard the victim yell “f--- you” at her while sitting in her car, deputies said.
That’s when deputies said Bell became upset, grabbed a rock, and began tapping on the driver’s side window.
She told deputies the victim then lowered the passenger window and continued cursing at her.
Bell admitted that she reached into the vehicle and grabbed the dog bed, swinging it around, but said she “at no time attempted to strike the victim,” according to the report.
Jail records show Bell is facing one count each of burglary with assault or battery and criminal mischief.
As of Friday, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where her bond was listed at $3,600. She was also ordered to stay away from the victim.
