NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — A North Miami man was arrested Thursday after he caused damage to a hair salon in the city with a shovel and then used the shovel to smash all of the windows of the owner’s Maserati, authorities said.

According to an arrest report from the North Miami Police Department, the incident happened just after 5 p.m. at the Distinction Hair Salon, located at 12405 NE Sixth Ave.

Police said the suspect, Maxime Nelson, 51, and the female victim are known to each other and the victim was also the victim of an aggravated battery involving Nelson in a separate case.

According to the report, in this latest incident, the woman told responding officers that Nelson showed up to her business and intentionally damaged the sign to the salon and the video surveillance cameras with a shovel.

Nelson then used the shovel to smash all the windows of the victim’s 2019 Maserati Levante, causing more than $1,000 in damages, authorities said.

According to the report, Nelson then fled the scene, heading east while holding the shovel and a gardening pick.

Police said officers spotted Nelson in the 700 block of Northeast 123rd Street and ordered him to drop the items and get on the ground.

Officers said he dropped the shovel and gardening pick, but started walking away while yelling “call 911!”

According to the report, officers attempted to detain Nelson, at which time he bit one officer in the neck and another on the right forearm and kicked a third officer in the chest area.

After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody, authorities said.

“I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now, because my car costs money now, to fix it now, because I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now,” salon owner Mureille Olivier told Local 10 News.

Nelson faces charges of criminal mischief, battery on a police officer and resisting an officer with violence.

As of Friday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $23,000 bond.

The relationship between Nelson and the victim was not disclosed in the arrest report.
