MIAMI — A mother is asking for justice for her 12-year-old daughter, after police said a group of boys raped her in a community garden in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood.
One of the boys raped her for 30 minutes.
“I don’t care if they get 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years, 100 years, guess what, I’m gonna always feel like as a mother, as a woman, I’m gonna always feel like it’s not enough,” the mother said.
The victim told police she was leaving her friend’s house when she saw the boys in the parking lot.
Police say 13-year-old Nelson Nunez grabbed her, and forced her onto a couch in the Green Haven Community Garden.
Investigators said 12-year-old Josiah Jones put rocks in the girl’s mouth to stop her from screaming, as Nunez raped her.
The boys only stopped after they heard her father calling out her name, per authorities.
“I’m upset. I’m angry,” said the mother.
Police said a third boy, 15-year-old Xavier Tyson, was also involved.
All three boys were charged criminally as adults.
The girl’s mom, who asked to remain anonymous, is thankful for the witness that came forward.
“We just taking it one day at a time,” she said. “We just taking it one day at a time.”
