DANIA BEACH, Fla. — A 50-year-old Hollywood man was arrested this past Friday in Dania Beach after deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said he attempted to have sex with who he thought was a 15-year-old boy who he met through the dating app Grindr.

Investigators said Miguel Angel Cruz was actually communicating with an undercover member of an online group that targets adults attempting to exploit minors.

During their exchanges, they said Cruz solicited the “boy” for naked photos, “specifically requesting pictures of his buttocks and penis” before allegedly sending naked pictures of himself to the undercover person.

Authorities said Cruz also told the “boy” that he wanted to engage in sexual activity with him.

They said Cruz then arranged to meet the victim this past Friday at a Walmart parking lot, located at 433 Sheridan St., in Dania Beach.

When Cruz arrived, authorities said he was confronted by members of the online group and 911 was called. He was then taken into custody.

Investigators said Cruz admitted to traveling to meet who he thought was a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity. They also confirmed that he brought condoms with him in preparation for the encounter.

Jail records show Cruz is facing charges of solicitation of a minor, traveling to meet a minor for sexual activity, and distribution of harmful material to a minor.

Cruz did not appear on the BSO jail website as of Monday afternoon.
