Investigators said Jian Chuan Weng, who has addresses at a Brooklyn rowhome and at a Japanese restaurant in the upstate city of Kingston, carried out the crimes in December and January. The 43-year-old was still in South Florida on Tuesday and was arrested in Doral.

Aventura police said Weng used fraudulently-obtained debit card and digital payment information to make large purchases at high-end retailers, including Tiffany & Co. and Louis Vuitton.

Authorities said in one instance, a woman noticed $86,000 in fraudulent transactions on her debit card and found that her card “was used to conduct multiple transactions at several Louis Vuitton stores located in Miami, Coral Gables, Boca Raton and Aventura.”

Other transactions included four-figure fraudulent purchases using information stolen from two other victims, police said.

According to arrest reports, investigators tied Weng to the fraud using surveillance video and said he was seen driving a white Nissan Rogue with a New York license plate.

The reports state that Aventura police received a notification on Tuesday that the SUV was in Doral and a Doral police officer pulled Weng over after he ran a stop sign and had an illegally-altered license plate.

As of Wednesday, Weng, a Chinese national, was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on 20 felony charges, including various grand theft and fraud charges.

His bond was listed as “to be set” in jail records.
