MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 50-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, nearly a year after he took more than $1,000 from a homeowner to extend the driveway of the home and then bailed on the job, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.
According to an arrest report, Marlon Hernandez Gomez, of Miami, came to an agreement with the victim on May 31, 2025, to extend the driveway for $2,254.
Deputies said the victim gave Hernandez Gomez $1,126 to begin the work, but after receiving the payment, he never returned to the home nor provided any materials to the victim.
According to the report, Hernandez Gomez was found by deputies on Wednesday and spontaneously stated that “he is aware he is not licensed as a contractor.”
Deputies said after being taken into custody, he invoked his right to an attorney.
Hernandez Gomez faces charges of grand theft and falsely impersonating a licensed contractor.
As of Thursday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $3,000 bond.
