MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Miami-Dade man is accused of stomping on a dog multiple times and later telling deputies the abuse was his version of “hard love,” according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies identified the suspect in an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News on Thursday as 28-year-old DeAndre Dontay Ingham.
The report stated that the attack occurred on Feb. 3 around 10:40 a.m. at his home near the 400 block of Northwest 144th Street in the Biscayne Gardens neighborhood.
Authorities said surveillance video captured Ingham inside the fenced front yard of his home “intentionally stomping on a female Rottweiler about six times while the dog remained on the ground, unable to defend itself.”
They said the repeated blows caused “unnecessary pain and suffering to the animal.”
On Wednesday around 9 a.m., detectives said they went to the home and spoke with Ingham and his girlfriend.
His girlfriend reviewed the surveillance video and identified the man in the video as Ingham, her boyfriend of seven years, according to the report.
She also recognized the dog as “Lola,” a Rottweiler she said she bought for him several years ago, the report stated.
Deputies took Ingham into custody shortly after 9 a.m. and transported him to MDSO’s Intracoastal District station.
According to the report, Ingham admitted he was the sole owner of the dog and confessed to stomping on the animal after watching the surveillance footage.
Investigators said Ingham told deputies he became angry because the dog urinated and defecated inside the home, including on a bed, and destroyed a Wi-Fi wire.
He told deputies that behavior “pisses” him off and said stomping on the dog was how he shows it “hard love,” according to the report.
Authorities said Ingham voluntarily surrendered the dog to Miami-Dade Animal Services.
Jail records show Ingham is facing one count of animal cruelty with intent to injure or kill.
Records show he was also previously arrested on accusations of operating an illegal chop shop — a place where stolen vehicles are dismantled so the parts can be sold or used to repair other stolen vehicles.
As of Thursday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
