PINECREST, Fla. — Three people were arrested on Friday in connection with a series of attempted residential and vehicle burglaries in Pinecrest, authorities confirmed.
Investigators said officers with the Pinecrest Police Department, who were working with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, took the suspects into custody following a “coordinated response” earlier in the day.
They said investigators believe the group may be linked to multiple incidents involving vehicles parked outside homes in Pinecrest, Coral Gables and Kendall.
Police said MDSO’s Aviation Unit assisted in the operation and helped locate and track the suspects in a rental car, allowing officers to safely apprehend them in West Miami-Dade near Florida’s Turnpike and Okeechobee Road.
Investigators confirmed to Local 10 that at least one of the suspects was involved in a separate break-in in the area over the last several weeks.
They said the investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the full scope of the suspects’ activities and whether they may be connected to additional incidents.
“We know we have them on at least five incidents just this morning. And we’re trying to expand that to see if they were also related to some of the things that happened in the weeks before,” A PPD officer told Local 10 News.
The suspects’ names and specific locations tied to Friday’s cases have not yet been released.
The arrests come after Pinecrest police began investigating two separate incidents reported in the early hours of Feb. 19.
They said the first burglary attempt occurred around 4:45 a.m. in the 13000 block of Old Cutler Road.
Home surveillance video showed a car pulling up and several people getting out. Police said the suspects attempted to access a locked Cadillac Escalade before approaching the home’s front door.
Authorities said the suspects then opened the unlocked door, triggering the home’s alarm system before fleeing.
They said a second incident was reported around 7:20 a.m. in the 6000 block of Southwest 120th Street. In that case, a homeowner spotted several people outside her house and the individuals ran away when they saw her, police said.
Investigators previously said the suspects seen in the first incident did not appear to be the same individuals involved in the second.
Police are asking residents to remain vigilant, lock their vehicles, remove valuables from view and report any suspicious activity.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the PPD at 305-234-2100 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
