MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies in arrested several individuals they said were connected to a robbery in far southwest Miami-Dade.
It happened on May 2 along the 30500 block of Southwest 188th Court, just outside of Homestead.
In custody are Jay Jay Lee Jasso Martinez, 30; Thomas Garcia, 20; and Mathias Garcia, 22.
The arrested suspects are all facing felony charges of strong-armed robbery, burglary with assault or battery and aggravated battery.
Deputies are still searching for Fredi Garcia, 20; Jasmine Rivera, 23; and Mercedes Garcia, 26.
According to authorities, when the victims in this case arrived at the scene and parked their car, Jasmine Rivera and Mercedes Garcia opened the passenger door and pulled one of the victims out, punching and kicking the victim “while forcibly taking her gold chain from her neck.”
When a second victim got out of the driver side of the car, they were approached and subsequently punched by Jasso Martinez, Mathias Garcia, Fredi Garcia, and Thomas Garcia, with the latter stating, “let me get that chain” as it was forcibly removed from his neck, according to an arrest form.
A third victim, who was in another vehicle, was also attacked by Jasso Martinez, Mathias Garcia, Fredi Garcia, and Thomas Garcia after trying to deescalate the situation, deputies said.
While this was happening, authorities said a witness pulled out a gun and fired several shots into the ground, causing the suspects to run into a dark-colored Ford SUV and take off.
The victims who were in the first vehicle were hospitalized, one with serious injuries to an eye and face, the other with serious injuries to the face and broken teeth.
Deputies said the victims were able to identify the suspects through photographs, which helped lead to the arrests.
Jasso Martinez remains behind bars at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond listed as “to be set” while Thomas Garcia and Mathias Garcia were not listed among Miami-Dade County inmates as of Monday afternoon.
