HOMESTEAD, Fla. — A 32-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after Homestead police said she stole more than $10,000 worth of jewelry from a pawn shop where she worked at.
According to an arrest report, Coraima Abelar, of Homestead, was working at the Village Pawn Shop, located at 147 NE Eighth St., Sunday when she was confronted by the store manager about missing jewelry.
Police said Abelar denied taking the jewelry.
According to the report, the manager told police that an inventory check Saturday revealed that $10,122 worth of jewelry was missing, but that a previous inventory check on March 1 showed all inventory was accounted for.
The manager told police that he checked the store’s security cameras and saw that Abelar had been scanning jewelry that was not on site into the inventory system.
He said she was also present for all previous inventories except the one on Saturday.
According to the arrest report, Abelar refused to answer any questions from police.
She was arrested and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of organized scheme to defraud and first-degree grand theft.
As of Monday afternoon, Abelar remained at TGK on a $2,500 bond.
