MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Smoke is still rising from a charred warehouse in northwest Miami-Dade, four days after a massive fire erupted inside.
A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy was still at the scene in the 20600 block of Northwest 47th Avenue Monday morning, guarding the entrance.
Over the weekend, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue shared an up-close look at their ongoing response.
Firefighters have been using an aerial crane to keep battling the blaze as they work to put out hot spots.
But there’s still an overwhelming amount of debris left behind. Crews are using heavy machinery to clear it.
Neighbors who live right across the street are still shaken by the blaze at the warehouse, knowing they’re on the edge of danger as those massive flames tore close to their home.
“I’m glad it didn’t come this way,” one resident in the area said. “Like I said, we have gas, and things could’ve went … the whole area could’ve just been terrible.”
A view from Sky 10 showed the roof of the warehouse caved in and the exterior walls collapsed.
The five-alarm fire call came in Thursday, sending about 200 firefighters to the scene.
Billowing smoke was spotted for miles.
A company called Global Warehouse Solutions takes up most of the space on site, according to records.
Authorities said deodorant, shampoo, AstroTurf and more are being stored in the 500,000-square-foot warehouse.
Some small business owners, who also used it for storage, say they lost everything.
What remains of the building is expected to be demolished at some point, but crews still have significant work ahead as they continue putting out hot spots and clearing debris from the site.
