Lauderdale-by-the-Sea commission votes to back state designation, renaming road after Donald Trump

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea holds meeting over naming road after Donald Trump

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. — A packed commission meeting in Lauderdale-by-the Sea took place Tuesday night, with some residents even forced to sit outside.

Many who attended were angry about the state designation of Commercial Boulevard in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, in between West Tradewinds Avenue to A1A, as President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.

There were 55 speakers who signed up to voice their opinions and concerns, with a small amount of the designation supporting the change.

This measure already passed in the Florida House and Senate and is currently awaiting the governor’s signature, then the new street sign will go up.

If this sounds familiar, back in September there was a very contentious meeting in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, with the town’s commission voting 3-2 to approve renaming Sea Grape Drive to President Donald J. Trump Drive, which is a town road, and not a state road.

That sign has already gone up.

With this new vote, the town is backing what was passed in Tallahassee.

Once the governor signs off, the designation will go into effect for commercial Boulevard, but that will mean the current President Donald J. Trump Drive will revert back to Sea Grape Drive, its original name.
