Firefighters remain at the scene in the 20600 block of Northwest 47th Avenue after the fire erupted last Thursday.

Firefighters are still working to extinguish hot spots as demolition crews continue to remove debris to reach areas that are still burning and remain inaccessible to firefighters.

Multiple environmental protection agencies are working together to conduct environmental sampling, as well as to continue to monitor air quality.

According to a press release issued by the county, “residents and visitors in and around the area should be aware that smoky conditions may increase during evening and early morning hours. Shifting winds and cooler overnight temperatures can cause smoke to settle at lower elevations, which may affect air quality in nearby areas.”

Officials urge those in the area with respiratory conditions to remain indoors during the evening and early morning hours if possible.

Residents are also urged to take additional precautions for those who are vulnerable, including children, older adults, pregnant women, people who work outdoors and pets.

The following protective measures are recommended:

  • Keep windows and doors closed.
  • Set air conditioning systems in your home and vehicle to recirculate air.
  • Avoid prolonged outdoor physical activity in the evening and early morning hours.
