MIAMI — Zoo Miami announced earlier this week that its five African painted dog pups can be viewed by the public after spending a few months off display bonding with their parents.
The pups - Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober and Red - are named after characters from the popular television series, “Fraggle Rock,” a Jim Henson production from the 1980’s.
African painted dogs are among the most endangered carnivores in Africa – with fewer than 6,000 individuals remaining in the wild.
They are found in isolated regions of Eastern and Southern Africa and live in packs that range from six to more than 20 individuals.
According to a news release from the zoo, guests and zoo members can view the exhibit daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
