Deputies arrest suspect they believe responsible for several Miami-Dade vehicle burglaries

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies in Miami-Dade County arrested a man they believe is responsible for multiple vehicle burglaries.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, detectives were conducting surveillance on Jesus Ortega, 25, on Tuesday after he had been identified as a person of interest in several vehicle burglaries dating back to October.

During their surveillance, deputies said they observed Ortega travel to a home in the area of Southwest Fourth Street and 85th Avenue in the early-morning hours on Wednesday.

According to MDSO, detectives watched Ortega park his car near the home and cover his face in a similar fashion to the subject in sever other vehicle burglaries under investigation before walking to a utility van, burglarizing it and running back to his car, quicky driving away.

After witnessing him commit the crime, deputies said they arrested Ortega a short distance away.

While being interrogated by detectives, Ortega “became irate and uncooperative” before repeatedly saying that he “refused to speak with investigators and wished to be transported to the jail immediately,” according to an arrest form.

Ortega is facing multiple felony charges, including burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and driving with a suspended license.

At last check, he remained behind bars at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after being grated a bond of $15,150.
