MIAMI — A 25-year-old Homestead man was arrested Thursday after police say he sold illegal drugs to an undercover officer at a Miami smoke shop, leading to a raid that uncovered large quantities of suspected narcotics.
Officers with the Miami Police Department said a “narcotics operation” was underway at Ark Smoke Shop Biscayne, located at 2223 Biscayne Blvd., when they said Andrey Lopez allegedly sold an undercover agent 72.7 grams of psilocybin, commonly known as “magic mushrooms,” and 14.6 grams of marijuana for $94.
Authorities said Lopez, a Colombian native, was arrested shortly afterward and the drugs were impounded by officers for processing.
Sky 10 flew over the scene just before 2:30 p.m., showing three police units surrounding the smoke shop as the investigation continued.
According to police, Miami officers and SWAT personnel executed a search warrant at the business around noon Thursday.
During the search, investigators said they recovered large quantities of suspected drugs, including 28,825 grams of pre-rolls of suspected marijuana, 43,950 grams of suspected marijuana-infused edibles, 48,485 grams of suspected THC vape pens or cartridges, 20,755 grams of suspected psilocybin-infused edibles, 5,080 grams of suspected hydroxymitragynine — an opioid derived from the kratom plant — more than 6,300 grams of suspected marijuana, and 26 glass containers containing about 1,445 grams of suspected THC wax.
Police said Lopez was read his Miranda rights and refused to speak with detectives before being taken into custody.
Jail records show Lopez faces multiple charges, including selling or possessing hallucinogens with intent to distribute, marijuana trafficking, and possession of controlled substances.
As of Friday morning, he was being held on an immigration hold at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
