1 dead, 4 injured after fight leads to gunfire in Riviera Beach

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. — Police in Riviera Beach are investigating after multiple people were shot on Monday.

It happened inside the Azure Estates community, located along the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at approximately 6:15 p.m.

According to police, five people were shot in the incident. One person has died and two others are considered in critical condition, police said.

Investigators said a group of people were hanging out in a courtyard when a fight broke out, at which time someone pulled out a gun and started shooting, striking multiple people.

“Once he shot those individuals, he left the property and tried to carjack multiple different cars where he shot individuals when he was trying to carjack those individuals,” said Riviera Beach Police Chief Michael Coleman.

Officers said they later caught up to the shooter in St. Lucie County, but have yet to identify that individual or announce an official arrest.

Investigators said they are working to determine the cause of the fight.
