They said officers responded just before 9 p.m. to a home near the 400 block of Northwest 25th Court after a man reported he had been shot.

Police said they found the victim in the backyard who told them he wasn’t hurt and that the suspect had thrown the gun behind the home, according to the report.

The report states that officers searched the alleyway behind the home and recovered a black revolver hidden in the bushes. The victim said he was unsure if the suspect remained inside the home.

Police said around 10:45 p.m., they forced entry into a locked bathroom and detained Victor Berhondo Ocana. The victim later identified him as the person who fired the gun.

The victim told police that earlier that evening, an argument over money escalated after he refused to pay Berhondo, according to the report.

He said Berhondo Ocana retrieved a black revolver, pointed it at his forehead, and fired two shots at his feet while saying, “Are you not afraid? I will show you what it means to be a bada--” in Spanish, the report states.

Authorities said Berhondo Ocana then threw the gun over a fence as police were en route.

They said Berhondo Ocana later confessed to detectives that an argument over money led him to retrieve the gun from inside the home.

Berhondo Ocana told investigators he shot at the victim’s feet to scare him, not to cause injury, and then threw the gun over the fence before locking himself inside the bathroom, according to the report.

The report states that the victim said he had been living at the home for about three months and had daily encounters with the suspect.

Berhondo Ocana was transported to the Miami Police Department Central Station for questioning and was later arrested.

Jail records show he is facing one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.

As of Tuesday, the Cuban national was being held on an immigration hold at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
