OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — Sheriff’s deputies say a man molested a 9-year-old girl as she made tea inside of an Oakland Park 7-Eleven while her mother briefly turned her back on Monday ― but the store’s cameras never stopped watching.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the lewd act happened just before 4:45 p.m. at the chain’s location at 5890 N. Andrews Ave., near Interstate 95.
Investigators said the girl knew suspect Faustino Gonzalez Lopez, 42, as “Nacho” from multiple encounters at the neighborhood store over the years. According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report, she told deputies that he touched her “yoni,” a term she uses for her genitals.
Investigators said security footage showed Gonzalez Lopez briefly looking around as he approached the young girl at the coffee machines. Deputies said the video then shows him “immediately” placing his hand around her waist, then placing his head on the right side of the girl’s head “as if he was whispering” something to her.
Deputies said the video shows Gonzalez Lopez placing his left hand on the girl’s shoulder and helping her make tea. According to the report, the video showed him looking around for the girl’s mother ― who was buying ice ― then caressing the girl’s hair and touching her breast.
Authorities said he used something falling on the floor as a means to touch the girl’s leg as he picked the item up; they said he then “grab(bed)” her buttocks. The report states that he then walked away as he saw other customers nearby.
But then, deputies said, he went back to molest the girl again. Authorities said the video showed Gonzalez Lopez continually looking out for the victim’s mother and other customers as he grabbed the girl’s buttocks and genitals and molested her multiple times, both over and under her clothes.
Authorities said the video showed Gonzalez Lopez “abruptly stopping” as the girl’s mother entered the frame. She would call BSO and deputies arrested Gonzalez Lopez on five felony charges: Three counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 and individual counts of lewd and lascivious conduct and false imprisonment.
As of Tuesday, Gonzalez Lopez was being held without bond in the BSO Main Jail, according to agency records.
