Dog found abandoned, tied to pole in Pembroke Park

Dog rescued in Pembroke Park after being found tied to pole, abandoned

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — An investigation is ongoing after a dog was found tied to a pole and abandoned in Broward County on Tuesday morning.

One witness recorded the dog’s rescue outside of Chevron gas station located at 3700 W Hallandale Beach Blvd. as police were called.

At first, the dog was brought to Pembroke Park police station, where officers took pictures in hopes of returning him to his home.

Hours later, the dog named Scooter ended up at Broward Animal Care after it became obvious the dalmatian-pointer mix was left behind on purpose.

“It is illegal to abandon an animal, especially in a place where it could fall into more harm than what it was already in,” said Broward Animal Care Director Doug Brightwell.

Scooter is believed to be a young male, around two years old.

“We don’t have any information on where he came from, who he belonged to,” said Brightwell. “He’s going to get a medical exam, get him processed and see if we can get him on the road to a better life.”

Scooter loves his treats and he seems to love affection, but the folks who run the shelter said the neglect is inexcusable, but could have been from bad personal circumstances.

“As things get more expensive and times get harder, people kind of get at their wits end and not sure what to do or how to go about it,” said Brightwell. “Contact us and contact other shelters in the area.”

That call could provide dog food, veterinary care or other basic needs.

Abandonment should never be an option.
