MIAMI — Medics took a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office motorcycle deputy to the hospital after he crashed at an intersection on Douglas Road on the border between Miami and Coral Gables, first responders said.
According to Miami Fire Rescue, medics arrived just after 3:20 p.m. and found the injured deputy at the Southwest 12th Street intersection. MFR officials said he “may have been cut off” by the driver of another vehicle, “causing him to crash.”
Medics took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and he is expected to survive, officials said. An MDSO spokesperson said the agency had been told that the deputy “was alert and walking.”
Officials said the driver of the vehicle, a 62-year-old woman, was taken to the nearby Coral Gables Hospital with neck pain.
MFR officials said the Miami Police Department is investigating the crash.
