MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Miami Beach police arrested a Subway worker who they said pulled a gun on six people in a dispute in the parking lot of one of the chain’s locations on South Beach early Wednesday morning.
According to the Miami Beach Police Department, the incident happened at around 12:40 a.m. outside the Subway at 1424 Alton Road.
An MBPD arrest report states that the victims left another store in the small shopping plaza when they noticed their truck was blocked in by an unoccupied and “improperly parked” car.
Authorities said when they tried backing out of the space, Subway worker Willnat Shantae Young came out of the store “and became confrontational.”
Young, 33, accused the group of “trying to hit her vehicle,” police said.
They said the situation “escalated” when one of the victims got out of their truck. Young, police said, asked a co-worker for her purse, which had her gun in it.
According to the report, Young approached the victims’ vehicle with her gun in a “low-ready position” and told the victims, “I am going to knock you all out.”
Police said the victims, in fear, called 911. According to the report, when they went into the store to try to detain Young, she “began to tense up,” forcing officers to take her to the ground.
According to the report, two independent witnesses corroborated the victims’ claims, saying Young “overreacted to the situation.”
Officers arrested Young, who lives in Miami’s Buena Vista neighborhood, on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper exhibition of a weapon and resisting an officer without violence.
Records show she was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $6,000 bond.
