HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. — Hallandale Beach police arrested a man Wednesday who they say is accused of exposing himself and engaging in lewd acts in public, including incidents targeting a child and an adult.
Police said Roberto Lazaro Sosa was taken into custody after the city’s license plate reader system flagged his vehicle as it re-entered Hallandale Beach city limits, allowing officers to quickly locate and arrest him.
Hallandale Beach police said the first incident occurred just before 7 p.m. Saturday, when officers responded to a “suspicious incident” involving Sosa, who was inside a white Ford Mustang.
According to the arrest report, a mother said she was outside her home with her child when she saw Sosa parked just east of the residence. Police said the victim claimed Sosa stared at her and her child for about 10 minutes while stopped in the roadway, causing other vehicles to honk and drive around him.
The report states she said he then moved closer to the front of her home and continued to look at them, behavior she described as “suspicious and caused her concern.”
When she approached his vehicle to ask what he was doing, Sosa did not roll down his window or respond, though she could see him clearly because the car did not have tinted windows, police said. He then fled westbound on Southwest First Street.
Later that day, officers said they responded to a separate call involving an indecent exposure incident.
A man told police that while he was sitting outside an Airbnb, Sosa pulled up in his white Ford Mustang, stopped in the roadway, exited the car and allegedly exposed himself and began masturbating, according to the report.
The witness went inside and called police, and Sosa fled the scene, authorities said.
Police later located and arrested Sosa, who was later identified by the victim in the indecent exposure case through a photo lineup, according to the report.
They said Sosa was also found in possession of cocaine at the time of his arrest.
Jail records show Sosa, 43, is charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, resisting an officer without violence and exposure of sexual organs.
As of Friday morning, he was being held at the Broward Main Jail on a $5,500 bond. A judge also ordered Sosa to be placed on house arrest, to stay away from the victim, avoid contact with minors except family members, and not return to the location of the incident.
Anyone with additional information related to these cases or possible previous incidents involving Sosa is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
