NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — The wheels were in motion in North Miami Beach as the annual Bike Ride in the 305 took place.
The event has been going strong for more than 10 years, and this year, more than 250 people signed up.
Those who did not have a bike or a helmet was able to rent one for free.
Some said the event went far beyond what meets the eye, because it’s a chance to build community.
“To see all the amazing, beautiful people come out, and the families and the kids, got a lot of kids come out this year, and they were very competitive,” said North Miami Beach City Manager Darvin Williams. “So it was a good day for a family day.”
The city is also celebrating its 100th anniversary.
“So (in) 100 years, we’ve gone through a name change, we’ve gone through location changes,” said Williams. “Sunny Isles used to be a part of North Miami Beach; a lot of people don’t know that history. Fulford-by-the-Sea was our original name, and then it was changed to the city of North Miami Beach. So we have a lot of vibrant history here that has transferred into the diversity that you see today.”
The biggest takeaway from Sunday’s event was all about bike safety and making sure your helmet is snug before you hit the road.
