Police: Man barricades himself inside Homestead apartment after domestic battery reported

Michael Anthony Hester (Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation)

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — A 43-year-old man was arrested Sunday by Homestead police after a domestic battery was reported, authorities said.

According to police, the incident was reported at the Keys Cove apartment complex in the 1600 block of Southeast 29th Court.

Police said the suspect, Michael Anthony Hester, barricaded himself inside an apartment unit when officers arrived and refused to exit.

After a perimeter was established around the apartment building, police discovered that Hester had an active arrest warrant for probation violation on an attempted murder charge “in addition to other charges regarding the domestic battery.”

“Due to the suspect barricading himself and it was unknown if he was armed, the Miami Dade Sherriff Office (MSDO) Special Response Team (SRT) was requested to respond and they subsequently apprehended the suspect without incident,” a spokesperson for the Homestead Police Department said in an email to Local 10 News.

Hester was taken to the police department’s headquarters for questioning before being booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

As of Monday morning, he remained at TGK where his total bond was listed as “to be set.”

Local 10 News has requested a copy of his arrest report.
