MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Angela Simmons comes from a musical family in hip hop.

Now known to the world as Angela Renee, she has spent her life in the public eye.

As daughter of Rev Run of Run DMC, some would say music is her birthright, but she has stayed out of the musical spotlight until now.

“I’ve always loved music and again, I feel like the lane that I’m stepping in is it’s music, but it’s a different lane in music,” she said. “It’s just the creative and me. It’s the artist in me. Yeah, it’s like the song is a vibe.

“It’s creative,” she continued. “It’s spoken word, which I’ve seen in different ways. Like when you think like Floetry or you think of like Jill Scott and like different artists, I just feel like I’m bringing it in a different way that I haven’t seen yet. And it’s like a canvas, you know? I feel like this is a new space for me to create.”
