MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Hialeah woman behaving boorishly at the gas pump of a west Miami-Dade Costco lost it Wednesday after another customer suggested that the warehouse chain yank her membership over it, deputies say. They say that kicked her meltdown into overdrive and led to her chasing after and attacking the woman.
But deputies say the victim had something stronger than the angry assailant’s fists.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at around 1:40 p.m. when Valeria Andrea Aguilar, 29, was at the Costco gas station at 7795 W. Flagler St. and “was screaming at other patrons” ― and the gas station attendant.
The victim then drove up to Aguilar “and told the gas station attendant to revoke (her) Costco membership” over her conduct, an MDSO report states.
Authorities said this set Aguilar off even more and she ran after the woman’s Subaru Forester. They said as the victim drove away, Aguilar got in her Toyota Corolla and chased after her about a half-mile to the intersection of Northwest Seventh Street and 82nd Avenue.
Deputies said Aguilar then confronted the woman and punched her in the head through her open window. She then “then grabbed the victim’s clothing and scratched her face, arms and chest,” according to the report.
The victim, fearing for her life, “armed herself with an axe/multitool” and hit Aguilar with it, allowing her to escape the attack.
The latter was eventually taken into custody at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital on a charge of burglary with assault or battery, a first-degree felony.
Aguilar’s Miami-Dade mugshot shows several stitched-up gashes to accompany her face tattoos.
In bond court on Thursday morning, a judge ordered that she be held without bond.
