Dirt bike involved in arrest of teen suspect arrested on DUI charge in Islamorada (MCSO)

ISLAMORADA, Fla. — A 17-year-old from Wausau, Wisconsin, was arrested late Friday night in Islamorada after deputies say he fled from authorities on an electric dirt bike while under the inlfiuence of alcohol.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said they attempted to stop two riders traveling in a bicycle lane along U.S. 1 without lights at about 11:30 p.m. near Mile Marker 86.

They said both riders fled into the Indian Mound subdivision, where one crashed, suffering minor knee injuries.

The teenager, who was not identified by MCSO, was taken into custody at the scene, and the electric dirt bike was seized as evidence.

Deputies said his blood alcohol content was 0.138%.

They said he is facing charges of driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding, and resisting arrest. He was booked into jail.

Authorities said additional arrests or charges may be pending. The suspect’s arrest photo has not yet been released.
