Police: Officer hit, shots fired during Margate street takeover incident

Officer struck by driver during Margate street takeover investigation; suspect flees

MARGATE, Fla. — Margate police are investigating after an officer was struck by a driver overnight while responding to reports of a street takeover early Sunday morning.

It happened near Banks Road and Northwest 29th Street.

Police say the officer fired toward the car as the driver came at them. It’s unclear if the vehicle or anyone inside was hit.

The driver fled the scene. The officer was taken to the hospital, but is expected to recover.
