MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 52-year-old man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a burglary in west Miami-Dade, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

According to an arrest report obtained Monday by Local 10 News, Pedro Luis Diaz-Castro, of Miami, was arrested Sunday on charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, damaging a phone/power wire during a burglary, grand theft, criminal mischief and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The burglary occurred just after 3 a.m. on March 14 in the 2200 block of Southwest 153rd Path.

Deputies said Diaz-Castro and another person jumped over a security gate outside the home before entering the property, opening the electrical panel and cutting off the power, causing the home’s security alarm and cameras to stop working.

According to the report, the duo then went to the rear of the home, pried open a guest bathroom door with a crowbar and then ransacked the master bedroom, stealing multiple watches, cologne, jewelry, U.S. currency, suitcases and other miscellaneous items.

The two then fled out the front door, deputies said.

According to the report, the items stolen from the home are worth a total of about $100,000.

Deputies said Diaz-Castro was located Sunday in the 9900 block of Southwest Eighth Street and provided verbal and written statements implicating himself in the burglary.

At the time of his arrest, Diaz-Castro was in possession of a gun that had been reported stolen out of Lee County, authorities confirmed.

The gun was impounded at MDSO’s Hammocks station.

According to his arrest report, Diaz-Castro, a Cuban national, was previously convicted of a felony in 2019.

As of Monday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”

Records show he also faces charges in two other cases, including armed robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of methamphetamine.

Anyone with information about the second person allegedly involved in the burglary is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
