MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recently announced finding a boat that may have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Biscayne Bay.
Davide Veglia died after the boat struck the 7-foot dinghy that he and his 14-year-old son were in at about 8 p.m. on March 25 in the Meloy Channel.
“We were able to locate a vessel that is currently considered a vessel of interest,” FWC Officer George Reynaud said on Tuesday.
A doctor pronounced Veglia, 55, of North Miami, dead at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Veglia’s son survived with a broken arm.
“This investigation still remains ongoing,” said Reynaud, a spokesman for the FWC.
On March 28, off the Crandon Park Marina, Claudia Balmaseda died, and Neil Schwab was injured after they were ejected from their boat.
Balmaseda was 33.
Video shows authorities recover control of the running boat that Balmaseda and Schwab had been in.
