DORAL, Fla. — A 23-year-old man was arrested Monday on accusations that he stole several iPhones from a Doral warehouse where he worked.
According to an arrest report, the thefts were reported by the owner of Nelcon Cargo Corp., who told officers that the suspect, Jesus Meneses-Perera, had worked at his warehouse, located at 1970 NW 82nd Ave., for about three years.
Police said the owner recently noticed several iPhones were missing after being scanned into the warehouse, which led him to review his surveillance footage.
According to the report, at about 2 p.m. on March, 5, Meneses-Perera, of Hialeah, is seen in the video sitting at his desk with several packages.
He then is seen concealing an iPhone box in a trash can underneath his desk and then, at the end of the day, carrying the trash bag to the dumpster, police said.
According to authorities, Meneses-Perera returned to the dumpster a short time later and was seen retrieving a cardboard box from the dumpster, placing it in his vehicle and leaving the area.
Police said he used the same method to steal another iPhone box the following day, depriving the business of $2,457.
Police noted in the arrest report that Meneses-Perera was permitted to remove cardboard from the dumpster, but was not allowed to take any other property from the warehouse.
According to the report, Meneses-Perera was arrested Monday with assistance from a Hialeah police officer before being transported to the Doral Police Department, where he declined to provide a statement to detectives.
He faces a third-degree grand theft charge.
As of Tuesday morning, Meneses-Perera was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,500 bond.
