It happened at around 5:15 p.m. Sunday between Southwest 117th and 97th avenues.

According to deputies, the victim was driving east on Bird Road when the suspect, identified as Drew Donald Sherwood, 37, made an abrupt right turn off 117th Avenue onto Bird Road, cutting off the victim and causing him to change lanes.

As the victim continued east on Bird Road, deputies said he kept an eye on Sherwood, who was driving his vehicle erratically and swerving in and out of traffic, leading the the victim to move to the left lane.

When they crossed 107th Avenue, the victim told authorities he heard a gunshot strike the passenger side of his vehicle, so he called 911 and followed Sherwood’s vehicle.

Deputies said Sherwood turned onto 97th Avenue and then south on 39th Street, with the victim following and relaying information to dispatch operators.

That’s when deputies said Sherwood stopped his vehicle between 94th and 95th avenues, got out of his car and pointed a gun at the victim and stated, “Stop following (or) I will shoot you again” before getting back in his vehicle and quickly reversing toward the victim.

The victim then fled the scene, deputies said.

The victim’s vehicle sustained two apparent gunshots to its passenger side, an arrest report states.

Investigators said they were able to use surveillance footage to corroborate the victim’s account of what occurred, and that Sherwood, who lives in the Westchester area, was later identified in a photo lineup.

As of Wednesday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of attempted second degree murder with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm, with his bond listed as “to be set.”
