MIAMI — A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting in Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood, authorities confirmed.
According to Miami police, the shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 off Northwest 17th Avenue and 52nd Street.
An arrest warrant states that Kenneth Knott, 36, was in a rented white Hyundai with another man, Zion Smith, when he exited the passenger side of the vehicle and shot the victim, Andre Russel, then 52, as Russel was standing outside his home.
Police said the victim ran across the street into the driveway of another home and Knott chased after him while continuing to shoot in his direction.
Responding officers found Russel a short time later, injured on the sidewalk. His silver Chevrolet Impala had been shot in its windshield, authorities said.
Witness statements, surveillance video and cellphone data helped detectives identify Knott as the gunman, the warrant states.
He was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
As of Wednesday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
According to the warrant, Smith was located by police earlier this year.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear.
