HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Hollywood police credited their drone with helping them nab a suspect in connection with numerous lawn equipment thefts.
According to police, a Nissan sedan was seen being used by the suspect while committing multiple lawn equipment thefts in the city last year.
“Through the use of technology, SCU (Street Crime Unit) detectives were able to locate the vehicle as it entered West Park and began canvassing homes,” the police department said in a social media post. “HPD deployed a drone and watched from above as the suspect got out of the vehicle, grabbed multiple pieces of lawn equipment, and drove off.”
Police said they continued watching the vehicle until the Broward Sheriff’s Office Burglary Apprehension Team and the BSO Aviation Unit responded to the area to assist them.
A Plantation police officer assigned to BSO’s BAT “grappled the vehicle” and the suspect was taken into custody, authorities said.
“The use of technology, combined with the coordinated efforts with neighboring law enforcement agencies, led to the successful arrest and a criminal off the streets,” HPD said in their social media post. “We are extremely proud of our SCU detectives who were dedicated to this investigation.”
The suspect’s identity was not immediately released Monday. Local 10 News has requested the suspect’s arrest report and mugshot.
