Law enforcement officers begin 270-mile bike ride to honor fallen heroes

Law enforcement bike ride begins in South Florida

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Florida law enforcement officers hit the road Monday to honor fallen comrades.

The 30th annual Florida Tour de Force charity bicycle ride began Monday morning in North Miami Beach. The five-day, 270-mile journey will end in Daytona Beach.

Two fallen South Florida officers killed in the line of duty in 2025 were among those honored: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Deputy Devin Jaramillo, shot and killed by a suspect, and Miami Beach Police Department Sgt. David Cajuso, killed in a motorcycle crash.

MBPD Officer Rick Lonergan was riding in Cajuso’s honor.

“He gave so much to the department and the city and the citizens of Miami Beach. The only right thing to do is to come out and honor him on a day like today,” Lonergan said. “He was a great guy. Funny guy. I enjoyed working with him.”

Law enforcement will escort the riders up the Atlantic coast with stops planned every 12 to 15 miles, making the ride accessible for seasoned cyclists and those riding for a cause.

“It’s an awesome feeling,” North Miami Beach police Chief Juan Pinillos said.

Every dollar raised goes directly to the families of the fallen heroes.
