FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — World Cup winner and two-time Olympic gold medalist Mia Hamm made a stop in South Florida on Saturday to host a soccer camp.

The event took place at the Baptist Health Training Complex in Fort Lauderdale.

The legendary U.S. women’s national team star took photos with participants before kids broke into groups and ran through a variety of drills to sharpen their skills.

Hamm said spending time with young players inspires her and reinforces that the future of soccer in the U.S. is brighter than ever. She added that the best way parents can help their kids grow in any sport is simply to show up and support them.

“You know I’m a parent myself but sometimes that is not always linear,” Hamm said. “They have to take a couple steps back but as long as they know you love them, that’s the most important thing.”

Some lucky kids went home with signed soccer balls and even a pair of World Cup tickets.
