MIAMI — A man was arrested last week at a Miami marina after police say he refused to get off a yacht he allegedly did not have permission to be on.
Just before 2:30 p.m. on April 22, Miami police were called to a marina at 1160 Northwest North River Drive for a trespassing complaint. The yacht’s owner said the man, Terry Roberts, was on board without permission.
When police tried talking to Roberts, 51, of Miami, he insisted he was authorized to be on the yacht and claimed he had permission from President Donald Trump, who he claimed was the owner, authorities said. The actual yacht owner, who was at the scene, denied ever giving him permission, according to an arrest form.
According to the report, officers attempted to speak with Roberts, but he refused to cooperate and continued repeating that he had authorization from Trump. He also said he was responsible for protecting multiple yachts in the area.
Marine patrol was called in case Roberts entered the water.
Officers said they warned him multiple times that he would be arrested if he did not comply, but he continued refusing and said only the president of the United States could remove him from the boat.
At that point, officers said it was unclear whether he was armed, and he was held at Taser point while they attempted to detain him.
After he was taken into custody, the yacht owner inspected the vessel and said a bedroom door had been damaged, with repairs estimated at about $3,000. The owner also reported missing keys, according to the report.
Before Roberts was placed in a patrol car, officers found the yacht keys in his right pants pocket, authorities said.
Police said he was also wanted in connection with the theft of a motorcycle just a few days before the boat incident.
Roberts was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
He is facing charges of burglary, grand theft and trespassing. His bond was set at $11,150.
