HOMESTEAD, Fla. — A Homestead man is facing 13 felony charges after police said he impregnated a 14-year-old girl who ran away from her home.
Investigators said Axel Jordany Martinez-Morales, 21, had been “involved in a dating relationship on and off” with the girl since December.
According to the Homestead Police Department, the girl had been reported missing on April 19 and officers found her hidden in the laundry room at his home in the 100 block of Northeast Ninth Court.
An HPD report states that the girl told investigators that she met Martinez-Morales “through a classmate” when he was 20 and she was 13 and they began dating after she turned 14.
Police arrested Martinez-Morales on charges of lewd and lascivious molestation and interference with custody on April 24.
Investigators said the teen later had a positive pregnancy test and “tested positive for a sexually transmitted infection.”
Investigators said Martinez-Morales harbored her at his home knowing that she was a runaway but said he denied engaging in sexual activity with her. They said he “admitted to concealing her in the (laundry) room to let her sleep because he didn’t want issues with his family for bringing her into the home.”
Authorities said they took a saliva sample from him and slapped him with additional charges on Friday. Those new charges include 11 additional felonies: 10 counts of lewd and lascivious battery and one count of impregnating a child.
The Guatemalan national also faces a misdemeanor charge of sheltering an unmarried minor.
As of Monday, Martinez-Morales remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $90,500 bond.
