MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — A woman from Miami-Dade County is accused of stealing packages from multiple homes in Miami Shores after investigators said surveillance video showed her posing as a delivery driver before taking already-delivered items from residents’ porches.
The suspect was identified in an arrest report from the Miami Shores Police Department as 40-year-old Sary Katiana Gomez, of Kendall.
The report states that the investigation began on April 29 after police responded to three package theft incidents across the west side, mid-zone and northeastern areas of the city.
Investigators said surveillance video from two of the thefts showed Gomez approaching homes while carrying a package, appearing to stage a delivery photo before removing packages that had already been delivered to the homes.
In another case, detectives said she was seen driving slowly past a victim’s home before returning through an alley adjacent to the property.
They said Gomez approached the porch carrying a small package, placed it near the delivered item, appeared to take a photograph, and then left with the victim’s package, valued at about $233.
Gomez’s arrest report states that additional surveillance video showed her walking to another home carrying an Amazon package, placing it on top of a previously delivered package, appearing to take a photo and then leaving with both items. Police said that package was valued at about $40.
Detectives said they also observed her leaving the area in a black Hyundai with distinctive “spiderweb-style rims.”
According to the report, an automated license plate reader later identified a vehicle matching the description bearing a Florida tag that had also been linked to another theft investigation in Sunny Isles Beach.
Investigators said law enforcement databases and previous traffic stops helped identify Gomez as the driver.
Detectives said her driver’s license photo matched the woman seen in the surveillance footage and displayed the same tattoo observed in the videos.
They said officers received an automated alert on May 8 indicating the vehicle was traveling southbound on Biscayne Boulevard near Northeast 105th Street. Officers then conducted a traffic stop in the 10300 block of Biscayne Boulevard.
Authorities said a records check revealed Gomez’s license was suspended. Investigators also discovered she had an “active county pickup-only warrant.”
After being advised of her Miranda rights, Gomez admitted she was the woman seen in the videos but denied stealing packages, telling detectives she “worked part-time delivering packages,” according to the report.
Jail records show Gomez faces two counts of third-degree grand theft from a dwelling or curtilage. As of Tuesday afternoon, Morejon was no longer listed in online Miami-Dade inmate records.
